Alberta's Restriction Exemption Program

September 20, 2021

On September 15, 2021 the province of Alberta declared a state of public health emergency and is implementing new health measures to increase vaccination rates and reduce transmission of COVID-19.

The health and safety of our visitors is of the utmost importance. Parks Canada is following the advice, guidance, and requirements of public health authorities and experts and continues to make every effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Starting Monday, September 20, Banff Upper Hot Springs will be implementing the Alberta Restrictions Exemption Program.

As part of this program, visitors age 12 and older wishing to enter the hot springs, including the café and gift shop will need to show:

  • government issued identification (patrons 18 and older only)

  • proof of vaccination;

o single dose accepted between September 20 and October 25 (if received 2 weeks before time of service,

o double doses required after October 25.)

  • documentation of a medical exemption; or

  • proof of a privately-paid negative PCR or rapid test within 72-hours of service (tests from AHS or Alberta Precision Laboratories are not permitted).

Anyone unable to comply with these requirements will be denied entry.

Wearing a mask remains required in public indoor spaces including the lobby and change rooms for those two and older. Masks are not effective when wet and should be stored in your locker while enjoying the hot springs.

We are continuing to welcome visitors to Banff National Park and reminding everyone to arrive prepared. Every visit should start with a trip to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and your visit to Banff National Park webpage. Here you can find up to date information about what is open, what is closed, and how to visit the park safely.

We need your help to keep Canada’s national parks safe and clean. When visiting national parks, remember your travel manners - only visit areas that are open, always adhere to public health advice and be respectful of staff and other visitors.

We look forward to welcoming you to Banff Upper Hot Springs soon!
